Community Service Information

He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord,
and He will reward him for what he has done.

—Proverbs 19:17

Every year, each student who attends three or more classes at VCHS is required to complete a minimum of 25 hours of community service. For complete community service regulations, click here.

Activities That Do Qualify as Community Service:

• Volunteer work at hospitals, nursing homes, day

cares, homeless shelters, crisis pregnancy centers.

• Volunteer babysitting, house cleaning, or yard

work for needy, elderly, or emergency situation.

(Housework, child care, or yard work cannot be

counted if performed for a student’s immediate or

extended family unless there are some unusual

extenuating circumstances. We will approve these

   hours on a case-by-case basis.)

• Volunteer work in the Sunday School program or

child care of a student’s church

• Missions trips (no more than 20 hours per trip)

• Outreach work to migrant camps, etc.

Activities that

Do Not Qualify as Community Service:

• Involvement in dramas

   or programs at school or

   church

• Helping out family,

   friends, or families of

   friends

• Any work for which you

   receive pay of any kind

• Babysitting siblings

• Attending rallies,

   marches, etc.

This is not an exhaustive list by any means. When a student performs community service, they need to fill out a community service verification form and have the adult who oversaw the activity sign the form. We will let the student know if the activity does not qualify.
